November wrap up Well, most of the wrap up -- First off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! -- Really, really late. I'm remember that I sucked at doing this in a timely manner. So starting where I left off in mid-October: November DecemberWow, I hope that looks right - I'm trusting Semagic to code that all right. Tossed in the first couple of December b-days as well. Hope everyone had/is having/will have a fabulous time. With special smooches to my wife, thebratqueen, and rockin_violin, who rents me da Boys :-D *** My word counts are scattered across two computers, so I'll have to do the full stats later this week. For now, I closed out writenao with 217 more words today. No completed stories, but I did manage to make some progress on two of them...maybe three. Really, my brain needs to focus on one of them and let the rest of the bunnies starve in the wilderess ;-P *** I finished cleaning out the spare room today - Woo-hoo! I have the laundry drying in there now, but that's easy to take out. Next Friday I believe I have a date with the scrapper and the wall paper. Next Friday because I believe that I will be too busy early in the week to consider an evening house project because, *** Tomorrow - er...later today, I'll be heading out the the ends of the universe. That's right folks, I've got a ride along with one our field engineers to see a live customer install -- out on Long Island. Hey, I'm betting the Long Islanders have nothin' good to say 'bout Jersey! BUT! the most important part of the trip will be that I will have a makd and the rest of you won't! :-D Well worth traveling to the ends of the earth to meet up with cool on-line buds :-) |

Weekend so far I was off from work since Wednesday, but in a lot of ways, this feels like the first day off. I needed to go out and hit the wine shop on Wednesday. Thursday was traveling for T-day -- a pleasant affair down and that favorite aunt and uncle's in central NJ. We exchanged Netflix recs and found that we had just returned The Thin Man Goes Home. I knew there was a reason I liked them :-) Last night was a gathering of the moon women. We skipped ritual and went for a night of reconnecting. It was nice to sit around with tea cookies and exchange rants about relatives.
Strangely, today I did the most work of any other day and still feel more rested. I hauled in the recycling, dumped the compost, and began the clean out of the Wolf Room. The Wolf room started out as my bedroom when I moved into the house. It's in the northwest corner with only one window - it tends to be darker than the other rooms. Normally that isn't a problem except every weekday morning when I was trying to get out of bed on time *cough*. Also, the single window was a pain back in the days of window air conditioning units.
So when I repainted the other room, I moved into it and ever since them have been trying to think the stuff in the Wolf room so I can renovate in there - strip wallpaper, repair walls, pull up carpet, paint the walls, lay the new floor -- same old stuff for renovations in my house.
The wallpaper in the room isn't so bad - beige with little pine trees in brown/green stick figures. Really hits the rustic notes that go well with my antique bedroom set. However the top border is *WOLVES*. Friendly looking pack oriented canines. And I tell you, if they were my spirit guides, I'd keep them. However, I am a fox and red-tailed hawk kind of girl, so the wolves must go.
Besides, wallpaper is evil.
The good news is that I actually managed to rearrange stuff between my current bedroom the living room and the pumpkin storage room so that the Wolf room is nearly empty. I took before pictures that I'll share later on as I get deep in to the renovations. The best part is that these rooms are all still functional, which is astounding.
Tomorrow I should be able finish the clean out and maybe spray down the walls and start stripping. The room will then become the Green room. I do think that I'm going to make it my bedroom again because the bed fits better in there. Also it will stand out better against the green than it does against the roasted sesame of the other room. The hope then is to install some nicer storage closets, a sewing table and a spare bed in the roasted sesame room.
But the final arrangement of furniture is all subject to change.
I've wrote and not died - yay me :-)

Free Turkey in the freezer ...barely. I've been making larger orders of stuff and freezing, not to mention that I store all the grains flours. But everything is in the cold storage where it belongs. Also in the free category, Oprah's giving away Christmas and Holiday music until Friday -- Check it out on Oprah.comIn the squee category, Friday night at 10 is the Psych holiday special. We meet Gus' sister; there will be the Snoopy dance. Gus and Shawn make other BFFs look like mortal enemies. This show is rated unrelentingly *CUTE*. Also for you Monk fans, that holiday special is on at 9, I believe. *** In other news of me, I took the day off with plans for doing all sorts of things. Instead I stumbled across the NCIS marathon on USA and became a slug :-) Well I did head out of the house around *6pm* because I realized I was missing a bottle of wine for tomorrow night. There's wine in the house, but not the kind we like with Turkey. Then I spent way too much time wandering around stores and fortunately not buying too much. I hit the LNT to pick orange plates that are a 90% match for the fall colored dishes. I hit Target and picked up another set of headphones - Skullcandy is my preferred brand. The set I own are on the missing list, but that's okay. They'll turn up and then I'll have a set in my desk at work. Then I hit the grocery store where I picked up some necessary ...and some not so necessary items with my turkey. Finally I picked up the wine. Turns out that the liquor store I hit had a nice selection of wines, including organic. Of course, when I got home I remembered that I was supposed to evict the second mouse of the season. Actually it's a mouse body. I couldn't find any live-catch traps this season. I have to say that if you're using snap traps, the Victor ones that look like gigantic binder clips work great. Easier to set, so far no little eyes looking back at me, and a breeze to empty out in the trees. And wow, it's 2am and even though I don't have to be anywhere until the afternoon, I should probably head off to bed. |

I'm doing ok today. Both Don and I got through our surgeries without any problems.
I talked to the anesthesiologist before my surgery. I told him about the trouble I've had in the past with getting very sick from anesthesia. Instead of loading me up on drugs to try to solve the problem, he did a spinal on me. It was the first time I've had that done. It was strange, but at least I didn't get sick and throw up. I now have a greater respect for people who are paralyzed or have lost limbs. Seeing my feet and not being able to move them was frustrating.
My doctor blasted the kidney stone with a laser. He still had to remove a tiny piece. They showed it to me. It was smaller than a grain of sand. I have photos of the stone before and after. I'll post them when I'm more awake. The pain meds are making me sleepy right now. I am still on Vicodin for pain because I had to have a stent put in to prevent my urethra from swelling shut. I have to get the stent removed on Friday morning. I'm supposed to work noon to 8pm on Friday. I'll have to call work Friday morning and tell them I might be late. I already called off work today. I couldn't work feeling like this.
If I don't post more later or tomorrow ...

*YAWN* Why is it morning? Hi ho, flist. I'm off in the Hinterlands of Connecticut, while I should rightly be home in my bed hitting the snooze alarm. Hinterlands of CT is somewhere in the vicinity of Danbury. Sorry Conn. and New England peeps - no time for side visits on this trip because I drove up with the co-workers in a rental van.
I mentioned a while back that we were moving our manufacturing operations to the not-so-far north. It's about 2 1/2 hours from home and work depending on which roads and the state of traffic. Operations are not going to start to move until January, but we're doing meet and greets with the Manufacturing engineers up here so we R&D engineers can continue to support them from down there. I'll probably be on the phone a lot more, but there will be times that I'll have to hop in the car and personally point out that part A really does belong in slot B (no matter what the 15 year old documentation may say about it ;-). Actually, these guys run a tight ship on their current product lines, so once they get over some initial growing pains, I bet they don't need us too much. Wow, where's some wood to knock on? Still, I'm betting by April 2 I'll have my first call about how the instruments are failing their water tests, and I get to impart 12 years of accumulated testing and ranting about how to clean the water bottles.
*Looks up* Okay, this is why I don't post before 7 in the morning because the whole not awake thing does get in the way.

Need Good Thoughts and Prayers My problems with my kidney stone pale in comparison to the news I just got from my mom. My mom's husband, Don, is in the hospital. He was diagnosed with cancer. I'm told that the prognosis is good though. The doctor says that surgery and a new treatment could give him another good 5 to 10 years. On Tuesday, Don is having surgery to remove his testicles. The doctor believes that his type of cancer was brought on by high levels of testosterone. Removal of the testicles has been successful in removing the cancer in other patients. It's Don's best chance of beating this thing. So, keep him and my mom in your thoughts and prayers please. My mom really needs strength to get through this. Current Mood: worried |

Oh wise Flist - or at least the NCIS fans among you I should be Writing or dying right now, but I decided to procrastinate fix a point in the last bit I wrote. It involves underwear, Gibbs and DiNozzo. There's a point in the fic where they need to change into special gear and Tony makes a comment - when does Tony not make a comment ;-) At any rate, I've got two things on my mind. Gibbs - boxers, briefs or something fancy? Is Gibbs still wearing olive green? I mean, he wears white t-shirts, so I can believe that he's moved on color wise. Gibbs is pretty basic, so I'm leaning towards tighty whitey's unless there's he's undercover or has need of something in particular - like a jock strap. Now, I know that MW discussed Tony once in a commentary. Did he say that he saw Tony as going commando or does MW go commando when playing Tony - not that a DVD commentary is the final say in these matters ;-) Tony's a runner, so I'm thinking that he'd go for something with support even when he's at the office. Briefs? Boxer Briefs? With a pouch? Thong? Jock? As long as it's stylish and functional, I can see Tony going that way. If you want to check out varying styles: http://www.abcunderwear.com/ripsunderwear.htmlhttp://www.abcunderwear.com/cin2underwear.htmlThoughts? If nothing else, I can add the word count of this post to my total. |
