Damn You Cooper and Wright I was soooooooo bound and determined not to watch SGU. Then you cast Robert Carlyle and I’m intrigued, decide to maybe give the pilot a chance. The one of my favorite sci-fi writers, John Scalzi is hired on as a creative consultant. Giving me some hope that you might finally write kick-ass female characters. And now…now you’ve hired on Lou Diamond Phillips. Damn you!!!! Mirrored from Fangirl Momma. | | Monday, February 23rd, 2009 | | 3:44 pm |
Just a notice For a short while all my entries are going to be friends-locked. It's nothing serious but necessary for now. Hopefully soon things will get unlocked again. | | Monday, January 5th, 2009 | | 4:41 pm |
Happy Birthday Everyone on my flist seems to be excited and bouncy and celebrating that it's Joe Flanigan's birthday, That's all well and good and I could join in and post a few of my favorite pictures. But instead I'll celebrate two other birthdays today. Bradley Cooper (who needs to be on my TV NOW) ( Yummy )And our favorite Scottish doctor, Paul McGillion (who deserved way better than what he got this season) ( More Yummy ) | | Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 | | 5:15 pm |
More thoughts on Eleven Well now that it's had some time to rattle around in my head, I think that the choice is a good one. Yes my initial reaction was one of confusion, as I'm sure it was for many who are outside the UK, that was mostly because I had no idea who Matt Smith was. Then I realised, it doesn't matter. If the Doctor Who people, most importantly Steven Moffatt, are happy with their choice, then I should be too. A lot of reactions I am seeing from Who fans revolve around Smith's age. Not just that he IS young but that he LOOKS young. But I think that can be a good thing. I've seen pictures of him and yes, he does look young. But he also has that odd, quirky look that endeared both Eccelston and Tennant to me. However I think the most important thing about Smith being young has to do with the Doctor and his regenerations. I have read that Moffatt and company didn't deliberately seek out a young Doctor. And that's cool. But to me, it had to be playing somewhere deep in the back of their minds that the Doctor only has two regenerations left. Somewhere, sometime, long ago someone said that the Time Lords could regenerate, but only 12 times for a total of 13 incarnations. So that leaves two regenerations for the last of the Time Lords. The Master was killed off for good in Series Three and the only other immortal characters we have in the Who universe are Jenny, his daughter, and Captain Jack. So unless they come up with a reasonable and believable way to work around the limited regenerations, then it is good that Smith is younger because he can stick around for much longer, perhaps more than three seasons. So, here I am waiting for 2010 to roll around (even though we just started 2009) so that I can see how Matt Smith handles being The Doctor. | | 1:27 pm |
HUH? My only reaction to the 11th doctor reveal: Who the fuck is he? | | Friday, January 2nd, 2009 | | 12:26 pm |
Happy New Year I know, I should of done this post yesterday, but having a fussy baby day kind of prevents that sort of thing. I hope that everyone had a safe and happy New Year. I know I certainly want 09 to be better than 08, it almost has to be. I'm not going to list all the lowlights of the past year because they are certainly overshadowed by the highest of the highlights, the birth of my daughter, Sarah. Sarah is 8 weeks old today. It's kind of hard to believe that she's already been in our lives for two months. She's already smiling and 'chatting' away at us. She really has the brightest smile. It kind of starts at the corners of her mouth and slowly grows until it encompasses her whole face, her eyes scrunching closed and her whole mouth wide open, usually accompanied by a happy noise. She also likes using her legs a lot. If I thought she was a fierce kicker while inside the womb, it's nothing compared to what she gets up to now she's out. Fannish wise, I had a good year, putting out 49 stories. I know the longest and the one I'm most proud of is what I wrote for SGA Big Bang (even if I didn't get much feedback from it). This year I'm doing Buffy Big Bang, working on something I started last year. I'm excited about producing a really long form Buffy fic. I think I'll do Remix-Redux again because I had so much fun doing it last year. I'll probably skip SGA Big Bang, unless I get a really great idea that I think I could do 50,000 words on. I want to make a recommendation to all of you, Let The Right One In. It's a Swedish vampire movie and its what we watched on New Year's Eve. It's everything a vampire movie should be. I've heard rumors that it would be remade here in the US but I really think that by doing so it would ruin everything that makes this movie great. If you get a chance, find this movie and watch it, you won't be disappointed. Other than finding a job, the only resolution I making this year (I normally don't do resolutions) is to try and write for 15 minutes a day. Emphasis on try. I didn't do so yesterday because of the aforementioned fussy baby. I'll just make up for it by doing either 30 minutes or two 15 minute sessions. I figure that if I do this, I'll keep my writing muscle healthy and maybe I'll also get to finish at least ONE of my WIPs this year (another sort of resolution, but I made that one to myself last year and see where it got me?). So, again, Happy New Year to all, let's start 2009 out right. | | Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 | | 11:32 am |
End of Year Writing Round-up Since tomorrow is the last day of 2008, I thought I would make a post of everything I've written this year. This only includes stand-alones and starts of stories, not WIPs (I promise to finish at least one next year!) Sorted by fandom, working backwards from the most recent thing I posted and under a cut to save your flist page. 49 stories in 8 fandoms. SGA 5.19 and 5.20 This entire season has been a big disappointment despite the utter slashiness of "The Shrine" and the snarky guest appearance by Michael Shanks. I certainly wasn't going to rush out and buy the DVDs the minute they hit the shelves and these last two episodes (leaked early) haven't changed my mind. Merry Christmas, Happy Boxing Day Well, finally some time to sit down and wish all those who celebrated it a very Merry Christmas. Having kids certainly makes the holiday all that more interesting.
Present wise it was kind of low-key for the grown-ups as the economy made gift getting a bit hard. I got some nice clothes, my annual new pair of PJs, a bottle of nice German white wine (which I will only drink one glass at a time of because I am breastfeeding), some towels (we always seem to need towels!), comfy new slippers, David Cook's CD (I'm listening to it now. I was feeding Sarah too it, I'm teaching her well, lol) and some other odds and ends. Brad got a new coffee maker/espresso/cappucino maker which we'll be trying out soon enough.
Liam was very happy with his portable DVD player and his Hot Wheels City play thing (I swear, give him a Hot Wheels car and he's happy for HOURS). Sarah got a high chair (which stays at Nana's til she's old enough to sit up by herself), a swing that stays at Nana's (we already have one at home), books for Liam to read to her, and a activity/mobile type thing that can clip to her crib. But I think the best present was the fact that after present opening, Brad and I lugged most of the presents home (we open stuff at my mom's home) and left both the kids with grandparents/aunty Emmy and got to have 4 hours to ourselves, which we spent napping. I love my family.
For the family as a whole, we got an early present on the 19th, which happens to be my sister Sally's birthday. She had her ultrasound that day, and we found out she's having a boy. So in May I'll be having a nephew. They're naming him Stephen Emsy. Stephen is my dad's name and Emsy is a family name in Jeff's (her hubby) family.
We're going back over today because my aunt Sarajane (not who we named Sarah for) is coming to visit with her family. Just for the day, but it's a good thing as they're living in Minnesota and just came down because her husband's dad is very ill (his family is in OH, he's in the Air Force). So more passing the baby around, lol.
So, here's looking forward to the new year, may it be better than the last and may everyone have a safe and happy rest of 2008. | | Monday, December 22nd, 2008 | | 10:05 pm |
Meme! Okay, everyone seems to be doing this one, so why not?
If you could sit me down and force me to write anything, what would it be? | | Thursday, December 18th, 2008 | | 8:34 pm |
In Memorium Originally published at Fangirl Momma. You can comment here or there. Sad news, Majel Barrett Roddenbery has died at age 76. I had no idea she’d been sick. Majel was instrumental in keeping Gene’s vision of the Star Trek universe alive. She had a role in the original series as Nurse Christine Chapel and later on played Deanna Troi’s mother Lwaxanna in both Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. She was also the voice of the Enterprise computer throughout Next Generation and all of the movies, including the upcoming J J Abrams incarnation. She will be missed. | | 9:17 am |
Happy Holidays I just wanted to take this brief quiet moment in my morning to wish all of you who read this, all my friends who’ve been with me through everything I’ve encountered this year, a very Happy Holiday. May whatever holiday you choose to celebrate be a joyous one filled with love, laughter, family and friends. Cheers *raises a glass of wine* | | Wednesday, December 17th, 2008 | | 9:16 pm |
I am going to hell (the special kind) It's time to loosen the slash goggles when you start seeing slash in the god damn MUPPETS!!!!
I'm so bad. So, so bad. *facepalm* | | Tuesday, December 16th, 2008 | | 12:52 pm |
Chuck Vs. Santa Claus and Heroes:Dual Yeah, there will be major spoilers here. ( Spoilers! ) | | Monday, December 15th, 2008 | | 5:43 pm |
Okay Cooper and Wright, You Have My Attention Originally published at Fangirl Momma. You can comment here or there. When it was announced that Robert Cooper and Brad Wright were introducing a new Stargate franchise (Stargate:Universe) mere days after the announcement of the cancellation of Atlantis, I believe I mentioned that there was no way on God’s green Earth that I was going to give Universe a chance. I may have to revise that statement. ( some ranting and SGU spoilers under the cut ) | | Tuesday, December 9th, 2008 | | 12:02 am |

Peace Originally published at Fangirl Momma. Please leave any comments there. For a short while anyway. Just sent Liam and Sarah off with Auntie Emmy and Nana to have their pictures taken with Santa. Sarah has this absolutely gorgeous outfit on that was sent by Fia’s mom. There will be pictures once I have them, promise. Sadly I think this foray out will not last long enough for me to justify climbing back into bed for a nap. *sigh* | | Friday, December 5th, 2008 | | 7:57 pm |
We Need Some Help Originally published at Fangirl Momma. Please leave any comments there. Usually I try not to ask for much help from my friends or readers of this blog, but this time it’s for a good reason. Our truck broke down a couple of days before Sarah was born. Since then we’ve been relying on my sister to either take us places or let us borrow her car. That’s not going to be feasible when I finally get a job and go back to work. So Brad has set up a few places where you can click ads to help us out. If you follow this link, it would do a lot to help us out. You don’t have to click on all of them, or heck even click on any of them it it’s not for you, but if you could pass this link on, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. | | Monday, December 1st, 2008 | | 1:21 pm |
