    New Trek Trailer
Okay, so when JJ Abrams was attached to the new Star Trek project I was somewhat skeptical. I loved Alias to an extent and Lost has a good start, but what was he going to do with one of the gold standards of science fiction tv/movies? When he proposed a younger crew, my inner fangirl wept a little. Then came the casting. Sylar as Spock? Karl Urban as Bones??  What on earth was he thinking???

But then came the pictures in Entertainment Weekly and I began to become intrigued. Zachary Quinto looked so much like a young Spock it was uncanny. And okay, maybe I misjudged some things, but I was still holding back. The original series was so campy and self-irreverent. The movies...were pretty much hit or miss. What did JJ have to offer that was going to reinvent the Star Trek franchise? So it was that I waited for the trailer.

Now having seen it, I must say, well done JJ, well done. It's action packed, gives us glimpses of all the major characters, specifically Kirk and Spock and makes me want to have my butt in a theatre seat come opening weekend. I especially enjoyed the little glimpse we got of Simon Pegg's Scotty, and I am very eager to see his performance.

So again, well done Mr. Abrams, well done.

    Baby Stuff

We’re home and have been since yesterday. Sarah had to stay an extra day at the hospital due to jaundice. The bruising she had on her face didn’t help any, but we were home by Monday afternoon. That is after being paraded around by Nana at her work. My mom loves to show off her grandbabies. Lol

    Thanks to everyone
    *wipes brow*

So just a quick hi and hello, now that Sarah is sleeping again. I should be catching some winks myself, but I wanted to let everyone know that we're both doing well. Everything is going well, even if Sarah was a lot bigger than we thought. And it was pretty much all her in there, cause I'm looking much smaller than right before delivery. She got a bit bruised up coming out and that's hindering the breastfeeding a little, but when she does feed, she feeds well. She's got lots of hair, and it's red but who knows if it will stay that way. Liam has already been by to see her and there will be a pic of him holding her to come. So now, onto the exhausting job of being a parent!!!

Thanks to everyone for all the good thoughts and congrats. It's great to know Sarah has some wonderful internet well wishers out there.

    Pictures!
At least one of these is going to get me murdered, and to my regret, none of them are free of [info]bradthedog's impulsive desire to turn photos into macros (I think he needs a time-out from icanhascheezburger) but I thought you might like to see them anyway.

    LOLKaty and baby Cheezburger. )

Again, apologies that they're not free of text, but I can only give you what's given to me.

    Sarcasm and love,

Welcome to the world, Sarah Felicia!
Last night, at 10:25pm, Sarah made her grand entrance, weighing in at 9 pounds, 6 ounces and measuring 22 inches long. According to all reports, mom and baby are doing fine, and we can only hope that this is not the start of a lifelong habit of dawdling and generally making Mom's life difficult!

I'll pass your well-wishes and congratulations on when I talk to Katy later, and I'll keep nudging [info]bradthedog for pictures (poor fellow is understandably groggy this morning.)

    Sarah is on her way.
    [info]fiareynne here again.

About two hours ago, [info]secondalto's hubby [info]bradthedog pinged me to say they expected Sarah to make her grand entrance within the hour. He also sent me a surprisingly flattering picture of a very unimpressed-looking [info]secondalto in a hospital bed, waiting for her daughter to quit dawdling and be born already. A picture which I would share with you except that she is my best friend and would likely MURDER ME for it.

More from me, your official birthing correspondant, as it happens. Stay tuned.

    *Many, many colorful curse words*
We needed this like a damn hole in the head.

While out and about today, our truck would not start. It would turn over, but the engine didn't catch. So we walked over to my sister's place of work. (Luckily we were in the shopping strip just across the street. And yes, walking, I was trying to move things along a little further by doing so.) She let us have her car to at least get us home. After she got off work we made arrangements for transportation and all seemed okay. Well, then the guy we called to tow the truck back home confirmed something Brad had suspected. It's the fuel pump. Which would cost almost as much as we paid for the truck to replace. Money we don't have.

Just when the universe seemed to be turning in favor of us, this happens. Can I call a do over?

    False alarm
Thanks to [info]fiareynne  for keeping everyone in the loop, but no baby yet. *pout*

I was hooked up and they checked me twice, but I stayed at 3 cm dialated. They were worried about Sarah not being very active, but they gave me something to eat and drink and she perked right up. It was left up to me as to what I wanted to do, but with the contractions being steady and not really significantly increasing in duration or strength, they weren't going to admit me. So home I am.

But she could still appear at any moment, so keep an eye out!

    8:52 pm
    Baby time?
Hey, guys. It's [info]fiareynne, posting for Katy. I had a message from her on Yahoo when I got home tonight saying that Sarah might be making her appearance on Guy Fawkes Day after all!

I haven't got the call yet, but I'll let you guys know everything I know as soon as I know it.

[edit] No such luck. She's been sent home for the night to sleep in her own bed, and may or may not be on later to update you herself while she waits it out.

I know I said I wanted to keep politics out of my journal, but you guys...*wibbles* WE DID IT!

I can stand up proudly to my son and my soon to be born daughter and tell them I had a part in making history. I made a difference. I voted for the first African-American president in our history. I am close to tears here. It's a proud and wonderful day here in our house.

    I Can Haz Baby Nao?

Please? I’m trying to be extra patient, knowing that letting Sarah arrive on her own is what’s best, but I’m seriously ready for her to come.  I was one cm dialated at my appointment Thursday and I just have this feeling that it’s going to be soon.  And Sarah has also already committed her first act of parental defiance. Brad was lobbying for her to be born yesterday. He just wanted a Halloween baby. The next biggest day is the fourth. It seems a lot of people think it would be very awesome if she was born on election day. All I know is that I’m ready.

    Gay Marriage
Copy this sentence into your LiveJournal if you're in a heterosexual marriage, and you don't want it "protected" by the bigots who think that gay marriage hurts it somehow.

    Let The Speculation Begin

It could be construed as big news, but personally I think anyone who is a Doctor Who fan knew this day would come sooner or later. David Tennant has announced that after this year’s four Who specials, he’ll be stepping down as The Doctor.

Now speculation and rumor can run wild as to who will take up the mantle as the time-traveling, planet hopping Time Lord who has held viewers imaginations for over 40 years.  Anyone wanna take a stab at guessing who it will be?

    *FLAIL OF AWESOME*
Now tonight's Supernatural was good, really, really good. Jensen knocked it out of the park with his acting. But I am here to flail about what happened AFTER the show.

*FLAIL* I was flapping my hands around in utter glee and squee, tears running down my face I was laughing so hard. I love this show and the actors. They never fail to entertain the fans. You go show!

PS: Anyone know where I can acquire a "Bobby is Awesome" icon, or something equivilant?

    Shatner, Get Over Yourself

In the last day or so, all the big entertainment blogs have been posting little tidbits about how William Shatner, aka, Star Trek’s Captain Kirk is upset that he wasn’t invited to fellow Trek alum George Takei’s wedding.

    Boo hoo.

George has responded by saying Shatner was issued an invitation but never responded. Either way, I don’t think it matters. It was George’s wedding and both he and his partner Brad made the decisions as to who got to come and who stayed home. So even if Shatner didn’t get invited he should suck it up and just wish George and Brad the best instead of making a huge fuss about it. You’re almost 80 years old man, act like it.

(also, yay for being able to use my Sulu 'fabulous' icon)

    More Pregnancy Fun (NOT)

Originally published at Fangirl Momma. You can comment here or there.

So now I get to watch out for signs of pre-eclampsia.

When the nurse took my BP it was high (132/93). The midwife said that in combination with my swollen feet raised a red flag for her.

Now, I get the BP thing, because I generally have low(ish) BP anyway so any major deviation from my norm is certainly cause for concern. But the swollen feet? They’ve been that way since I found out I was pregnant, so to me, no red flag. And I would have thought that would have been the case with the midwife since I’ve had the swelling since I’ve been seeing them, but…whatever.

So I had to lay on my side for five minutes and then have the BP redone, and it was fine. Then she sat down and brought up the pre-eclampsia and the words “modified bed rest” came out. Basically I’m supposed to lay around (or in this case sit) and do nothing, which is basically what I’ve been doing (minus a few chores which I gave up just this week)! She wanted me to come in earlier than one week so I could get my BP taken again but it couldn’t be arranged. So she said, find someone who has a BP cuff/machine (mom does yay!) and check it on Monday (laying down) and if the bottom number is over 85, they want to hear about it. She also gave me other symptoms to watch out for: further swelling of my feet, bleeding, headaches, pains in the chest that aren’t heartburn related. And then she actually said, “Can I trust that you’ll page us if any of this happens?”

WTF??? I’m 32 years old, college educated and after everything I went through with Liam (which I’ve told them about, several times) why wouldn’t I call???? I’m just as concerned about my own health as well as that of Sarah as you are!!! I wanted to say something, but by that time I just wanted to get out of there so I could go to the store to get milk and go home. Now I love everything that the midwives have done for me so far, they have given me far superior care than I ever got with the health department when I was pregnant with Liam. But that…*seethes* it made me want to hit something.
